About Klutz
Klutz is an American brand specializing in interactive activity kits designed to inspire creativity and hands-on learning in children. Founded in 1977 in Palo Alto, California, the company began with the publication of Juggling for the Complete Klutz, a book that included juggling beanbags. It was created by Stanford graduates John Cassidy, Darrell Lorentzen, and B.C. Rimbeaux, who set out to combine learning and fun, giving kids a way to explore through play.
Since then, Klutz has released over 110 million products, including bestsellers like Cat’s Cradle, Face Painting, Friendship Bracelets, and The Klutz Book of Paper Airplanes. Each kit typically includes a step-by-step instruction book along with all the materials needed—beads, paper, clay, and more—so kids can start creating right away. These kits help develop fine motor skills, spark imagination, and build confidence.
In 2000, Klutz was acquired by Canadian company Nelvana, and in 2002 it became a subsidiary of Scholastic Inc., one of the world’s largest publishers of children’s books. This partnership helped Klutz expand globally and further integrate educational principles into its products.
The brand’s philosophy is built around the idea: “Create wonderful things, be good, have fun.” Klutz encourages creativity by promoting experimentation and learning through trial and error. Its kits span a variety of topics, including science, art, fashion, and crafts—making them engaging for a wide range of interests and ages.
Today, Klutz continues to innovate, combining traditional hands-on learning with modern trends. Its products are now available in over 24 countries, offering children and their families high-quality, creative tools for play and learning together.

As a third-grade teacher, I’m always looking for ways to combine learning with creativity—and Klutz delivers every time. Their kits not only captivate my students’ attention but also reinforce fine motor skills, sequencing, and independent thinking. I’ve used the Sew Mini Treats and Jelly Stickers kits during indoor recess and art stations, and the kids are completely immersed. The instructions are clear, the materials are high-quality, and the outcomes are adorable. I love that I can trust Klutz to support both fun and learning without relying on screens. It’s a classroom win I recommend to every fellow educator.

I’m not the craftiest parent on the block, but Klutz makes me feel like a creative superstar. My 9-year-old daughter and I spent a whole afternoon making felt donuts and jelly stickers, and honestly? We both had a blast. The kits come with everything—no late-night craft store runs needed. The directions are easy to follow, and there’s just enough mess to make it fun without wrecking the dining table. It’s screen-free time we both actually enjoy. Klutz kits have become our go-to for rainy days, gifts, or just when we need a little father-daughter bonding.

Klutz knows how to keep creative play fresh and fun. I’ve reviewed dozens of activity kits, and Klutz consistently stands out with its smart design, beautiful packaging, and built-in educational value. The Sew Mini Treats kit? Adorable. The Paint & Peel Jelly Stickers? Trendy and satisfying for kids to make and display. What I really love is how each kit encourages independent crafting while giving just enough guidance. You don’t need to be an artist to feel successful. Whether you’re shopping for your own kids or gifting, Klutz hits the sweet spot between creativity and confidence every single time.
